Santa Cruzans have long felt an affinity with Hawaii. Linked by the Pacific Ocean, and harboring a connection to the Pacific Rim, we share a laid-back openness, love of sand and surf and a strong community spirit.

Hula's has been celebrating those values in the Monterey Bay area for the past eight years. The creation of brothers Chris and Craig Delaney, the first Hula's opened its doors in Monterey. An instant hit, it was voted best new restaurant in 1998 and has earned a loyal following ever since.

Since then, Chris and Craig have been joined by locals Ian McRae, Don Hays and Rich Furnish to launch Hula's in Santa Cruz. While the ownership has expanded, the menu of fresh fish, steaks and seafood remains the same. Hula's cuisine includes a hint of Asian, a dash of Latin and a touch of Caribbean, all with Hawaiian inspiration.

Host your own private luau (or other celebration) in our island fantasy "Tiki Room." Enjoy our full tiki bar, friendly service, vintage surf and Hawaiian art and tropical flavors for a culinary adventure designed to tantalize your senses!

I really enjoyed this place. The food was excellent, and so was the service. Most times it is hard to find a place in Santa Cruz with both. I recommend you try Hula's.

The food is delicious and plentiful (be prepared to take some home to enjoy later), the staff is professional, efficient and friendly. It does tend to get a little loud at times... not the place for an intimate supper, but a great place to eat (I love their jerked chicken bowl), have a drink or two (great selection of premium rums!), party with friend, meet lively people at the bar (great selection surf videos playing on the flat screen TVs there... and enjoy life!

I had been wanting to try this place based on buzz I had heard around town. It is a bit noisy, but I had been warned, so I was expecting it. We sat in a backroom behind the bar. It was dimly lit and not too noisy. The food was excellent!! I had the wasabi fish special with seared ahi tuna. It was so good I can't wait to have it again. The wasabi mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about, but everything else made up for it. Our server was attentive, helpful and friendly. So, brave the nois
